Senior Coastsiders

Half Moon Bay, California

Saturday, April 30, 2016

The Red Thistle Dancers performed at the Senior Coastsiders Center in Half Moon Bay, California, April 23, 2016.

Senior Coastsiders provides opportunities, support and resources for older adults and adults with disabilities living on the coastside, from Montara to Pescadero and Skyline to the Sea.

The town of Half Moon Bay began as a rural agriculture area, primarily used for grazing of cattle, horses, and oxen used by Mission San Francisco de Asis (established in June 1776).

Reflecting the numerous artists in the area, there is an active artist's collective.  Half Moon Bay also hosts an annual Art and world-famous Pumpkin Festival in October.  At the north edge of the bay is the big wave surf area, Mavericks, off Pillar Point, where surfers challenge waves over 50 feet tall (15 m).
